Prompted by numerous suggestions from engineers and tech leads, Tamedia invited participants to attend the first TX Hack Days. This event aims to foster the can-do mindset as well as in-house technology exchange, with the aim of networking and inspiring the participants. The same is true of the TX Tamedia Exchange Conference, which is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, on the 25th of June.
"The Hack Days offer a superb opportunity to show what can be achieved in 24 hours of fully-focused programming when small teams of experienced developers collaborate," said Thomas Gresch, Group CTO at Tamedia. "Hack Days provide us with an innovation lab for Publishing, Classifieds, Marketplaces and Ventures."
Hard landings allowed
Around 40 top engineers, from across the Tamedia group, gathered last week in the snow-covered mountain village of Parpan, in Canton Graubünden, the venue for the "TX Hack Days". The purpose of this two-day event: to explore a variety of project ideas by getting hands-on, with the goal of enabling them to go into production.
One thing is clear: not everything runs smoothly at events such as these, and there are some ideas that leave a few doubts behind when it comes to implementation – and others may even end up as 'epic fails'. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained. That's why we want daring employees willing to attempt a moon shot at the Hack Days – with the risk of crash-landing on hard reality," Gresch points out.

Looking ahead: the TX Tamedia Exchange Conference
The TX Conference, previously known as Tamedia TX, is the annual digital gathering that focuses on Marketing, Products and Technology. This event is Switzerland's largest conference for developers, and it will take place for the fifth time on 25 June 2019. This year, we are expecting over 600 participants from all areas of the company.

The digital share of our business is growing
Tamedia is increasingly evolving into a digital company. The figures prove it: the digital area already earned a 43% share of Tamedia's total sales revenue in 2018. And this percentage is set to continue growing in the future thanks to the efforts of our 900 or so tech employees.
