1981
The publishing program is expanded with the monthly publication of Spick, the "clever school kids magazine" for collecting. It is remarkable that Spick is published without advertising.
1982
After the publishing rights of the woman's magazine Annabelle were already acquired from the Jean-Frey Group at the end of 1981, the Tages-Anzeiger AG now also purchases 70% of the Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich as well as the title rights to the free advertiser Züri Leu, which is discontinued. The publishing rights of the woman's magazine Femina are acquired from the Conzett + Huber Publishing Company, and the German-language issue is merged with Annabelle and appears new as Annabelle-Femina.
1983
The Wochenprogramm is replaced by Züritipp in magazine format.
Edition C, the newly founded book publisher of the company, publishes its first books. Hans Heinrich Coninx becomes Chief Executive Officer of the five-member management. Construction of the new newspaper printing facility on Bubenbergstrasse is completed; its planning had begun in 1978. It is currently considered the most modern in Europe.
1984
The change of newspaper production to offset printing also meant the end of the era of book publishing. All printing operations are now carried out at Üetlibergstrasse and Bubenberg. For the first time in 90 years no impression cylinders rotate in the parent company in Werdstrasse.
With a certified circulation of 303,058 copies, Schweizer Familie is by far the largest weekly magazine in the German-speaking region of Switzerland. Spick already has 45,000 enthusiastic subscribers. Annabelle-Femina achieves a circulation of 114,246 copies.
1985
After new editorial structures were already introduced in the previous year, the Tages-Anzeiger is published restructured as the result of a "gentle revolution" and in a new look. The newly designed newspaper is characterized by a clear page layout (block pagination), somewhat larger headlines, more maps and diagraphs as well as a more airy typeface.
1986
Due to the strong increase of help-wanted ads, the third Stellen-Anzeiger is introduced, which is published every Saturday.
1987
The first issue of the SonntagsZeitung is published on 11 January. In four sections, it is a mixture of an up-to-date daily newspaper and weekly newspaper with background information. In the same way as the Tages-Anzeiger, the SonntagsZeitung is delivered in the early morning directly to households. The Tages-Anzeiger AG has an 85% share in the newly founded Verlags AG SonntagsZeitung. The Berner Zeitung AG has a 15% share.
Otto Coninx retires after 45 years as president of the Board of Directors. He is named honorary president. Hans Heinrich Coninx is named one of the new vice presidents.
With the acquisition of the Conzett & Huber printing works group, the Tages-Anzeiger AG also gains possession of the culture magazine Du. There are now approximately 2,100 employees and more than 1,700 newsgirls and newsboys.
1988
The Waser Druck AG, which is specialized in the production of high-quality products, is purchased.
The Tages-Anzeiger-Magazin is renamed Das Magazin and is made independent of the Tages-Anzeiger editorial board. Das Magazin is also inserted in the Berner Zeitung and consequently increases its circulation to 381,400 copies.
The newly founded Werd Verlag presents its first, attractive non-fiction book program in the fall.
1989
A separate TV program was already inserted in Schweizer Familie in the previous year. On 10 January 1990, TV plus is published for the first time with 32 pages as a supplement in Schweizer Familie, the Tages-Anzeiger and the Berner Zeitung. Twelve additional newspapers also adopt the supplement, which advances TV plus to the TV program guide with the highest circulation with more than 800,000 copies.
The advertising pool Swiss Combi is founded by the Tages-Anzeiger, the Berner Zeitung and the Lucerne-based Neuste Nachrichten. Later La Suisse also joins as partner.
The Tages-Anzeiger AG acquires a majority share of the Bremgartner Bezirks Anzeiger. With the founding of the Bezirks-Anzeiger Dietikon, involvement in the regional newspaper area is increased.
The company becomes involved in audiovisual media. It purchases minority sh ares in the Metex AG and its subsidiary the Schlosser Film AG as well as the Condor Production AG.
The audiovisual sector is rounded off with majority shares in the Radiotele AG, which canvasses for radio and TV advertising.
