The Girardet, Walz & Co. AG is renamed Tages-Anzeiger für Stadt und Kanton Zürich AG.
The Tages-Anzeiger parent company acquires the publishing rights of the magazine Schäubli’s illustrierte Zeitung für die Schweizer Familie and founds the Schweizer Familie AG.
1942
Thanks to full employment - Swiss industry works for both the Allied Forces and the Axis Forces - the Tages-Anzeiger does well. Circulation reaches 100,000 copies in the middle of World War II.
The sons of Otto Coninx-Girardet, Otto Coninx-Wettstein and Werner Coninx, both become members of the Board of Directors.
1943
The lawyer Otto Coninx-Wettstein joins the company.
1950
The circulation of the Tages-Anzeiger, the largest daily newspaper in Switzerland, increased continually in the post-war years and is now at 124,184 copies.
1956
Otto Coninx-Girardet dies and his 41-year-old son, Otto Coninx-Wettstein, takes on the position of managing director. He becomes president and delegate of the Board of Directors at the same time.
1957
After the rather slack post-war years, a new boom begins. The circulation of the Tages-Anzeiger reaches 146,442 copies and hits an annual total number of pages of 14,442.
1962
The Tages-Anzeiger gets a new subtitle: "Non-Partisan Swiss Daily Newspaper”. The pages have five instead of four columns. But the most important editorial innovation is the introduction of leads: semi-bolded summaries at the beginning of each article.
1963
The weekly supplement Zeitbilder, in magazine format, is replaced after 59 years by the two-color weekly supplement TA7 published in newspaper format.
1964
Early morning delivery of the Tages-Anzeiger is introduced. Previously, delivery was completed at noon. Now the Tages-Anzeiger is the first newspaper in the morning, and readers have it in their mailboxes before starting work.
1966
Due to the thriving economy, the classified section of the Tages-Anzeiger barely has any space left for the help-wanted ads. A separate insert called Stellen-Anzeiger is introduced, which is published together with the main paper on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
1967
The Tages-Anzeiger international issue is founded. This weekly issue is published on Tuesdays and contains selected articles, reports and commentaries of the previous week. It is printed on thin paper and mailed to destinations around the globe.
The circulation of the Tages-Anzeiger reaches 174,000 copies with a total of 23,736 pages throughout the year.
1970
The weekly supplement TA7 is replaced by a new journalistic creation, which creates a sensation: the Tages-Anzeiger Magazin. The new Saturday supplement is published in magazine format. The interest of readers and the advertising industry alike is above average. The circulation of the Tages-Anzeiger reaches 200,523 with a total of 27,942 pages throughout the year.
