Scholarship Award 2009

2008, in the first year of the award, six winners were chosen:

Peter Ackermann, Annabelle
In view of two completely different commitments, Peter Ackermann was rewarded with the scholarship award. First he is winner of the Zurich Journalism Award 2002 in acknowledgment of an acclaimed series of articles Die Kindstöterin, The Child’s Murderer, in which he proved journalistic accuracy and brilliance. On the other hand he was in charge of re-launching the Annabelle supplement MANN. He was the responsible editor for the special supplement, for which he achieved to establish an unusual and amazing format.

Christian Liechti, Berner Zeitung
His reports about the cattle rearing of the Bernese farmers found a broad and intrigued public, and was judged to be sustainable and substantial. Christian Liechti was rewarded with the Berne Journalism Award 2008, being honoured for his qualified and well investigated articles and his well-balanced and committed comments on the topic.

Walter Scheibli and Peter Schnyder, Radio 24
Sports journalism on the radio is a very special challenge, as visually attractive and thrilling activities have to be reported just by spoken language. Walter Scheibli and Peter Schnyder manage this challenge outstandingly. This is why the jury honours the amazing commitment of the two as a team – at the example of the life coverage of the championship winning of the ZSC on 10 April 2008 – and honours the life time achievements of Walter Scheibli particularly.

Constantin Seibt, Tages-Anzeiger
The downturn and cease of operations of Swissair was of a particular interest for a broad public, especially the judicial reprocessing thereafter at the Bülach regional court. It was a special challenge to display all judicial background implications, the protagonists in all their facets and the activities at court which were complicated and unspectacular at first sight, but had to be reported in a way that a broad public would be interested in and would follow. Constantin Seibt achieved this in an acclaimed series of articles, which was also published as a book, and for which he was rewarded with the Zurich Journalism Award 2008.

Heinz Storrer, Schweizer Familie
The much acclaimed and extraordinary series Stille Orte der Schweiz, Silent Places in Switzerland, was honoured by the jury because the series stands for outstanding achievements in two genres at the same time – text and picture – which, in this very rare case, have the same authorship. The jury therefore rewards the journalistic and the photographic skills of Heinz Storrer for the series of articles which is unique visually and in content.

TalkTäglich team with Daniela Hess, Priska Wolff, Hugo Bigi and Markus Gilli, TeleZüri
