The daily talk show TalkTäglich on TeleZüri was rewarded in September with the Swiss Television Award 2008 in the «Regional» category. The award ceremony was held at the Maag Event Hall in Zurich. The Swiss Television Award was presented jointly by the TV magazines Tele and TVStar for the first time. The TalkTäglich team – Markus Gilli, Hugo Bigi, Priska Wolff and Daniela Hess – were personally present to receive the award.
The Swiss Academy of Sciences rewards Max Rauner with the Prix Media 2008 for his article «Einbahnstrasse zum Hadsch» on crowd control in the pilgrim city of Mecca, published in the Magazin. Rauner writes in his article about practical aspects of panic research. He is honoured for his achievement in writing about science in an attractive and spirited way. Max Rauner was born 1970 in Berlin. After finishing his studies with a degree in quantum optics at Hanover university, he works as a journalist for «Physikalische Blätter». He publishes articles in various daily and weeky newspapers since 1996.
Birgit Schmid wins the Pfizer Journalism Prize 2008. Her artikle «Wo brennts denn?» in the Magazin was focussing on work making sick. She managed to focus on a rather unknown aspect, namely the fact that the expression burn-out is used much to much and misleading. She was honoured with this prize because of her writing in a based on facts though understandable way. Text
Peter Schneider, psycho analyst and satirical author of the weekly guidebook column in the Tages-Anzeiger, received the 2008 Award in Applied Psychology. With this award, being endowed with 10’000 Swiss francs, the Swiss Professional Association for Applied Psychology honours outstanding achievements in the field of applied psychology. Peter Schneider was honoured because he manages to combine psychoanalytic theory and a savoir-de-vivre lifestyle in an amazing way.
The SWISS Media Award was presented at the Travel Trade Workshop in Montreux. Andreas Güntert, freelance journalist, was given the award within the «Aviatik» category for his article «Impressionen auf Platz 34K». The text reports in an amazing and surprising way about the inaugural flight of a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380. Günter’s articles was published in the SonntagsZeitung on 28 October 2007.
Advertising for the SonntagsZeitung has been rewarded with two awards at the Epica creative advertisement competition. The Advico Young & Rubicam campaign «insight story» for the SonntagsZeitung was honoured with a bronze award in the Press category, while the same agency won a silver award in the Film category as well with the spot «Bush» for the SonntagsZeitung. The Epica awards are chosen by the European advertisement special press. Editors-in-Chief and journalists from more than 30 countries form the jury which - this year - had to make a choice out of 4945 entries from 51 countries.
The first price of the BZ Award for local journalism has been given, in the German speaking part of Switzerland, to Jörg Meier from the Aargauer Zeitung as well as Christian Liechti from the Berner Zeitung. The jury pointed out that Christian Liechti’s articles are a good example for a courageous local journalism, having the sustainability of agriculture in the rural areas of Berne in mind. The series of articles are described as «written close to the topic and to the point, composed dramatically, and commented on competently and balanced» and are appraised as being carefully investigated on the local issues and pleasantly layouted.
For the second time, the magazine Schweizer Journalist has placed a public Internet survey to vote for journalistic achievements in the year 2008. The magazine chose the winners in a two-step procedure: First, recommendations by readers, experts and jury members were collected. In the online vote, a general audience was able to vote but only within the Best Journalist of the Year category. 927 readers participated in this vote. Additional to that public vote, a jury rewarded journalists in a series of specialised categories for their achievements.
Swiss Broadcasting Corporation reporter Barbara Lüthi was rewarded as the Best Journalist in the year, followed by journalist Hansueli Schöchli of the Bund and the SonntagsZeitung reporter team: Karl Wild, Catherine Boss und Martin Stoll.
Daniel Binswanger of the Magazin was rewarded as Best Political Journalist, Michael Meier of the Tages-Anzeiger as the Best Cultural Journalist. Thomas Zaugg of the Magazin became Best Newcomer – together with Karin Wenger of the NZZ, Bund and other newspapers, Beat Glogger of the Magazin was elected Best Science Journalist. The SonntagsZeitung reporter team with Karl Wild, Catherine Boss und Martin Stoll was rewarded in the Best Journalist Recherche category. Patrik Müller of the Sonntag was elected Best Editor-in-Chief of the Year, followed by Felix E. Müller of the NZZ am Sonntag and Marco Boselli of 20 Minuten.
